And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. Acts 9:6

A Christian disciple’s journey after conversion starts with how he/she reacts to God’s word.

A true, born again disciple is no longer a rebellious, lawless one that does not have any regard to God’s word. A disciple’s journey is a new life marked with a reverential fear of God.

To tremble is to fear God not because of punishment but because of a new found love for His word and instructions. When Saul encountered Christ the Way on his way to destroy believers in Christ, he ‘trembled.'(Acts 9:6a).

The fear of God overtook him as soon as he heard God’s voice. No wonder the scripture says the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Psalms 111:10, Proverbs 15:33).

The midwives who delivered Moses feared God and obeyed God’s instruction against the political injunction to kill, abort and terminate the life of the Hebrew babies born during the birth of Moses(Exodus 1:17).

The fear of God enables the grace that makes us say NO to ungodliness(Titus 2:12).

Paul emphasized this truth when He said ” Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God (2 Cor. 7:1).

Do you fear God? Do you tremble at His word? Have you become so familiar with reading, preaching, and teaching the Bible that it does not prick your conscience, convict you of sin, righteousness or judgment anymore?

A true disciple understands that fearing God’s word connotes honor and love for Him because God has exalted His Word above all His names (Psalm 138:2).

PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace to hearken to your instructions. Let me not ignore you when you speak to me. I want to treat your word with reverence. I want to tremble at the hearing of your Word in Jesus name I pray.
