1 Kings 3:15 NKJV – 15 Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.
Read 1 Kings 3:1-15
When Solomon was made king in place of his king David, his father, he was still very young and lacked wisdom for the role he was taking on. After one of Solomon’s regular practices of sacrifices and offerings, God gave Solomon the opportunity to request a special gift from Him (v. 5).
You would expect that a young child would ask for something for himself, but instead Solomon asked for something much more useful…wisdom (v. 9)! God was so pleased with Solomon’s request that He not only gave Solomon the wisdom and understanding heart that he asked for but also riches and honor to set him apart from all the kings of his day (v. 10-13). God even promised to lengthen Solomon’s days if he walked in His ways and kept His statutes and commandments (v. 14).
Solomon’s response to this blessing from God is the focus of this devotional. God had revealed all this to Solomon through a dream, but when Solomon awoke he responded with worship, presenting an offering unto God before the ark of the covenant and served his servants with a feast! Worship and thanksgiving is always the right response when we receive a blessing from God.
PRAYER: Father thank you for all you are and for the many things you do for me. Forgive me for anytime I have not responded properly to receiving a gift from you. May I always remember to take time to worship and celebrate the blessings you add to my life. In Jesus name. Amen.
