1 John 3:2-3 (NLT): Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.
Today’s devotional is a continuation of our series on being sanctified. Our reference scripture reminds us about the fact that Jesus will come back again one day for us who believe in Him. This hope that Jesus will come back again one day is indispensable to us living pure Christian lives while here on earth.
As believers, our faith in Christ was not designed for this world alone. Jesus did not only die for us to have a good life here on earth, He died to give us a better hope, a hope of eternity. Our faith is tied to the hope that Jesus is coming back one day to take us to be with Him in heaven.
John 14:2 (NKJV) – In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Having this hope in us helps us to be careful to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to Him.
The way to have this hope is to genuinely believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross of cavalry and rose again on the third day to deliver you from this evil world of sin, worldliness and everything opposed to God. He died to set you apart in order for you to be able to spend eternity with Him one day.
When Jesus comes back again, He is coming for a pure and chaste bride – Ephesians 5:25-27; that is without sin Hebrews 9:27-28; and so we are to be careful to live pure and holy lives 2nd Peter 3:13-14.
Ask yourself today, do you truly have this hope that Jesus is coming back again one day?
How is the hope of His return influencing the way you live today?
PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, I thank you for your word to me today. I believe in my heart that you died for my sins and rose again on the third day to deliver me from this evil world and give me a hope of eternity in heaven with you. From today Lord, please give me the grace to live holy as I constantly expect and wait for your coming. In Jesus name. Amen.
