“Our guilt overwhelms us. But you forgive our sins.” Psalms 65:3 ICB
Sometimes we let our guilt put us in a place where we doubt who God is. We say that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1) but somehow we always end up condemning ourselves. We let shame and guilt talk us out of believing that God is a God who forgives. How much better are we than God that we cannot forgive? Sometimes we forgive others and show grace toward them but someone once told me that you have to show that same grace to yourself.
Forgiveness is sometimes a difficult conclusion to get to but with the grace of God, we will be a people that forgives and shows compassion. A tool that helps with forgiveness is writing a letter to the person that may have done you wrong, it may very well be yourself. You can choose whether or not you want to actually give it to them but, it’s more so for you. You can say anything in the letter but be sure to include the wrong the person has done, the part that you played in it (because more than likely we usually play a role) and write until you are able to say that I️ forgive you. Guilt, shame, and bitterness will not be our stronghold, let the love of God flood in your heart. Allow the Spirit of God to grant you grace in forgiving. Forgiveness is a difficult thing but it’s beautiful in every way
Prayer: Lord, I thank You for showing me your grace even when I believe I do not deserve it. I thank You for loving me and keeping me within Your arms. As I write, this letter allows me to be transparent and vulnerable. Allow me to humble myself and see others with a heart of compassion. In Jesus name, Amen.
