Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path (NKJV)
Have you ever been in a friend’s house and did not know where the bathroom was?
Usually they have to give you directions so you can find it, and sometimes all the doors look exactly the same, which makes it even more difficult. What if you open the wrong one?
This analogy can be used to explain why discernment is a gift God wants to give His children through His Spirit.
The reality we live in is much harsher than the consequences of not finding the bathroom when you are pressed.
We have an enemy who is actively working to steal from us, kill us, and destroy us. The enemy we face is very real and he is always looking to take from human beings. The Devil understands that we are flesh, and he is no fool at what he does. He knows that he doesn’t always have to end your earthly life to keep you from being transformed into God’s image. He can just distract you with pleasures and cares of this life: the job you always wanted, that person you always wanted, the money and the looks you always wanted. Endless doors that all look like they belong to the bathroom.
He will even use “good” causes to take your attention away from the eternal purpose God has given you.
This is why Psalm 119:105 is so precious. The Word, when it becomes a part of us changes the way we see and hear spiritually. In turn, we understand God more, and His way. The way to life.
Psalm 143:8 – Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You. (NKJV)
Psalm 143:10 – Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. (NKJV)
PRAYER: Father thank you for giving me help to see in this dark place. May your word be as promised to me, a light to my path! Help me to read and meditate on your Word, to be desperate for it every day. I don’t want to get tired and bored with your words, and I rebuke every attack of Satan on the seed of your Word in my heart. Help me to discern between right and wrong, to know what is your will and what isn’t. I love you Father, in Jesus name I pray. Amen.
