1 Peter 2:2- Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation. (NKJV)
The goal of being accepted into college is not to remain a freshman for several years. The ideal progression is that you will take and pass the right classes, become a senior, graduate, get a job, be able to fend for yourself and support others in your family and community as a resourceful citizen and not become a public liability.
God’s intention is that you grow: that you mature to become a believer He can trust.
You are still a freshman in the issues of faith if you are ignorant of spiritual things and intolerant of sound teaching; if you enjoy the excitement in fellowship but lack discipline and character.
So, if worldly passions, being overly emotional, spiritual immaturity or works of the flesh (in contrast to the fruit of the Spirit) are seen in your life, know it is time for you to grow up.
If you are not contrite, repentant and humble; If you are not able to preach the gospel, witness to others; If you do not habitually renew your mind with the word of God; If you despise God-ordained authority; If you are not accountable to a church, but keep hopping from one church to the other, there is a need to sit up.
Get godly counsel as you move on to the sophomore, junior and senior years as you grow in your faith, in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
James 1:21 – Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (NKJV)
1 Peter 2:1-3 – Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. (NKJV)
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your word today. I desire to grow. To grow more into your likeness. Please Lord, give me the grace and humility to conform to the process. Help me to lay aside every filthiness and allow the Holy Spirit to renew my mind through your word. Guide me to Christlike mentors and brethren who will help me grow more into your likeness in Jesus name. Amen.
