‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. (Matthew 15:8)
While He was here on earth, Jesus showed severally in His interactions with people of His day that the Christian life is a call to obedience and not lip service.
He cares more about about transformed hearts and minds that obey Him rather than professions of faith without corresponding action.
John 3:1-3 There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” (NLT)
Luke 11:27-28 As he was speaking, a woman in the crowd called out, “God bless your mother—the womb from which you came, and the breasts that nursed you!” Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” (NLT)
John 8:30-31: As He said these things, many believed in Him. So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with them, then] you are truly My disciples.(AMP)
Look into your life today: Do you make consistent professions of faith in Christ with a lack of corresponding fruit?; Are you fond of declaring a love for Jesus that lacks obedience? Repent where needed and ask for grace to amend your ways.
Jesus is telling you: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.- John 14:15 (NKJV)
PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, I realize all the ways I have paid lip service to you without living a life of obedience. I repent of my disobedience today. Please, give me the grace to do your will in Jesus name. Amen.
