HEART OF A WIDOW

HEART OF A WIDOW

HEART OF A WIDOW 150 150 Bethel Campus Fellowship

Proverbs 15:25 NKJV  – ‘The Lord will destroy the house of the proud but He will establish the boundary of the widow.’

In this Proverbs scripture, a house or boundary represents security. Like the proud, many of us have a false sense of security when all of our earthly needs are met, so much so that we forget how desperately we need God.

A false sense of security and a forgetfulness of our need for God can lead us to prioritize other things over our relationship with God. When we forsake time with God to do extra shifts at work or sleep in rather than attend church, it may feel like small inconsequential decisions. Actually they are very large decisions that can have dire consequences. It is important for us to examine where our heart is. Do we rest in the false security of employment or finances, basically having all of our earthly needs met? If so, we must repent and ask the Lord to create a clean heart in us that is never satisfied by anything or anyone but Him.

We can learn a lot from widows in biblical times. Women often relied on their husbands for security and provision. When their husbands died, they were frequently left impoverished and alone unless they had a loved one that could care for them. Ultimately, the women had no choice but to be fully dependent on God for every single need. Likewise, we ought to remember that there is no one who can provide eternal security for our souls except God. We must ask Him to help us have the heart of a widow — one whose faith is not in earthly things or people, but in God and God alone. Amen.

PRAYER: God thank you for blessing me with earthly things – good finances, enjoyable friends, employment and so on –  but I pray that my blessings will never replace you. Let my security and satisfaction only come from you because I know that’s the only true reliable foundation. In Jesus’ name Amen.
