Mark 9:47-48: If your eye makes you sin, take it out. It is better for you to have only one eye and enter God’s kingdom than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell. The worms that eat the people in hell never die. The fire there is never stopped. (ERV)
Hell fire was prepared by God for the devil and his angels.
Matthew 25:41: Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (NIV)
Unfortunately, while hell was not created primarily for humans, people who fail to live the way God commands will end up in hell fire. The seriousness of our reference scripture (Mark 9:47-48) shows that we are not to play with anything that would make us spend our eternity in hell.
Many times, believers are caught in a web of entanglements that derail us from the path of righteousness: unresolved offenses, bitterness, sexual immorality and the like.
Jesus warns us clearly in Mark 9:47-48 to steer clear of anything that could put us at risk of a Christ-less eternity.
Apostle Paul also warned in Galatians 5:19-21: When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (AMP)
So what next?:
Take God’s word seriously and at face value. The only way to enter God’s kingdom is to have genuine faith in Christ and do the will of God (Matthew 7:21-23). Repent of every sin God is convicting you about (1 John 1:9) and remember, it is better to take out your eye than spend eternity in hell where the fire never goes out.
PRAYER: Dear Father, thank you for your word to me. I desire to spend eternity with you. From today, I repent of all my sin and receive grace to live your way in Jesus name. Amen.
