I Kings 17:7-9 NIV – ‘Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.”’
Life is lived in seasons and for every time and season that we are privileged to experience, there is a purpose (Eccl 3:1). Some seasons will inevitably involve a period of vulnerability, helplessness, and loneliness. In such moments we are placed on the receiving end like Elijah in our reference scripture for today.
I encourage you to read the entire story in 1 Kings 17.
If you have a relationship with Christ in which you dedicate yourself to God daily and you walk with Him no matter the season, then there is a divine purpose linked to your moments of need and rescue. God is invested in providing you — His child — with help. After all, one of His titles is ‘Helper’ (John 14:26 ).
In your moments of need — for those who love and walk with God — all things including the despicable strange events that wipe others off their feet and push them to curse God will work together for your good (Romans 8:28). God will always provide you with help. It’s just a matter of where it comes from so don’t limit how He can help you.
If God can provide for Elijah through a widow — someone who is frequently left impoverished and alone unless they have a loved one to care for them — then just imagine all the different ways He can provide you with help. Keep your eyes and heart open. What you need, the answer to your desperate plea may just come from the most unusual place.
PRAYER: Lord I will look to you in all times and seasons of life because my help comes from you. Teach me not to limit the way that you help me so that I don’t miss out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
