HUMILITY

HUMILITY

HUMILITY 150 150 Bethel Campus Fellowship

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” – 1 Peter 5:5

Being criticized is not the most fun thing in the world. It feels uncomfortable to be disagreed with or corrected, especially when you do not like how the correction is given.

Pride can be like a thick, large veil which blocks us from seeing anything outside ourselves.

The dangerous thing about pride is that it makes us think that we can create solutions for ourselves.

Pride makes us think that if we reveal ourselves, if we promote ourselves, if we make ourselves seen, that it will make us happy and successful. The truth is that pride only makes you think about yourself, not others.

Pride will make you self-employed, while humility will make you surrender to God in every situation.

Look at humility as a shirt that you can put on, like the scripture says. Let us decide today to see humility as something to put on when we are irritated, corrected or pressed: This is our reasonable sacrifice to God for the love and mercy He has shown us!

PRAYER: God, teach me your ways. Teach me to be humble. Forgive me for my proud ways and my selfish actions, in Jesus name. I am making a new commitment to putting on the cloak of humility, so please help me to obey. In Jesus name, I pray.
