1 Corinthians 6:12: I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. (NIVUK)
1 Peter 2:16: For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. (NLT)
So many of us ignorantly do things that can be potentially unsafe to our spiritual wellbeing in the name of exercising our rights.
Paul admonished the Corinthians during his time to understand that the immoral use of their bodies has a moral consequence and they should glorify God by respecting their bodies.
It might be lawful in your cultural definition of what you consider right or wrong: You may argue and justify cutting your skin, piercing your body parts, tattoos, choosing and changing your skin color, gender or the like.
After all, we are in a free world where anything goes.
Is it beneficial in the end? Will you have regrets someday?
Your right to do anything has a consequence and your ‘freedom’ is never intended to be a license for sin.
PRAYER: Lord help me not to abuse the right you have given me over my body. Help me to treat my body as a sacred gift from you. In Jesus name. Amen. (1 Corinthians 3:17)
