John 6 vs 35: Jesus replied to them, “I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me [as Savior] will never be thirsty [for that one will be sustained spiritually]. AMP
All human beings are composed of spirit, soul and body. We eat to give strength, nourishment and vitality to our bodies. In the absence of food, we develop hunger which is a sign that we need replenishment.
The same way, our human souls and spirits are in need of strength and vitality. Without spiritual food, we remain in a state of hunger.Without consistently feeding ourselves with the word, we lose strength and become lean in our souls.
Jesus is our reference for the topic today. He makes a powerful claim by stating: I Am THE BREAD OF LIFE. As the Bread of Life, He alone can satisfy our soul’s longings and ensure that we stay alive spiritually.
In Him alone is eternal life and without Him, we lack spiritual vitality and life. He alone can provide sustenance to our souls; His life is food and His Spirit is water to our souls. (John 6:35; John 7:37-39)
You may ask, how can I get this Bread of life; how can I drink this Water of life?
The answer is clear from our reference verse: He has shown you what to do: COME TO HIM AND BELIEVE IN HIM (John 6:35)
Jesus is asking you to come to Him. He has given a clear revelation of Himself for you to see. He is the Son of God who came down from heaven so that you can have life. He is calling you to stop living your life the way you choose and come to Him for rest.
Come to Him and believe that His revelation about Himself in the Bible is true. When you come to Him, He will teach you more about Himself and give you life and rest in your soul. (Matthew 11:28-29)
You are to come to Him and believe Him daily the same way you eat food every day through the study of His word and prayer.
Whoever continually presents themselves to Him and whoever continually believes in Him will never be hungry or thirsty spiritually.
PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to you today, I believe that you are everything you say you are. You alone can satisfy my soul’s innermost desire and give me rest. Give me the grace to daily eat and drink from your abundance. Amen.
