Isaiah 59:2 ERV – ‘It is your sins that separate you from your God. He turns away from you when he sees them.’
God is a holy God. The revelation of God in the bible and through the life of Jesus Christ bear testament to this truth. As a God of love, He loves His creation unreservedly. His desire is always to fellowship with them and fill them up with His glory. Unfortunately, one thing separates creation from God – SIN.
A deviation from the truth of God in our generation is that sin harms us as individuals but God is not angry at sin. The bible speaks contrary to this and makes it clear that God is angry at sin and will judge sin wherever and in whomever He finds it (Romans 1:18; Matthew 13:41-42).
Satan (Lucifer) was the first being to sin and be separated from God. He was a beautiful angel who was perfectly made by God but given the freewill to obey or disobey, he chose to disobey. Pride and rebellion were found in him and he failed the obedience test.
Ezekiel 28: 14-16 NKJV – “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.“By the abundance of your trading. You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God…’
After God made man, Satan recognized that the only way he could separate man from God was through sin and he tempted Adam and Eve to disobey God in the garden. Consequently, they were also cast out of God’s presence.
Genesis 3:23 NLT – ‘So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden…’
King David recognized this truth and declared in Psalm 66:18 (ERV) ‘ If I had been hiding sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened to me.’
Despite the power of sin to separate us from God, God in His perfect wisdom and love has made a way for us to get back to Him. He made His anger against sin clear on the cross of Calvary where Jesus suffered and died for our sins. The moment you accept Jesus Christ into your life, you are cleared from the effect of sin on your relationship and made right with God by faith (Romans 5:1).
2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT – ‘For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.’
The moment you become born again, you receive the grace to say no to sin and to live a righteous life; The grace of God enables you to live this holy life. In case of any sin you may commit after getting saved, God loves you and the blood of Jesus is present to wash you if you repent.
1 John 1:9 ERV – ‘But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.’
PRAYER: Father Lord, thank you for loving me and for desiring a close relationship with me. Unfortunately, my sins have separated me from you. I repent of all my sin and trust in the forgiveness available through the blood of Jesus. Amen.
