JOY IN OUR JOURNEY

JOY IN OUR JOURNEY

JOY IN OUR JOURNEY 150 150 Bethel Campus Fellowship

Isaiah 12:3 NIV – ‘With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.’

Our reference scripture contains great imagery worth meditating on at the start of your day! The bible is full of all types of examples like this because it helps us to understand spiritual things.

So what is a well? It’s important to explain this because we rarely encounter them in the modern world, and the context is where the weight and power of this scripture is found. In biblical times, wells were how communities satisfied their daily thirst. To make a well, a deep hole had to be dug into the soil, so deep that water is struck and begins to flow.

Taking water from a well is a lot of work! A long rope and a bucket is used to grab the water, and people had to be careful not to drop anything or else they’d have to start the long haul from the bottom of the well all over.

Isaiah says that salvation is our well, and that we draw water from it with joy! Though the water might be heavy, and though the effort in hauling it may be tough on our bodies, there is a joy in our labor that has no price.

Let no man deceive you! The most rewarding thing in this life is to know Christ and serve him. Though we carry a cross, Christ is our companion and comforter — even our joy — to make the yoke easy and the burden light.

This is the blessing for those who know that they have this promise, that in Christ joy is freely given. The key is to draw from Him the joy, peace and righteousness that He gives when we surrender.

So today surrender again, draw again, and draw with expectation and draw by faith. And then keep drawing in the same way that people in biblical times kept coming back to the well to satisfy their thirst. In knowing Him you will know joy.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the perfect gift of salvation. Lord I pray that all that You are is all that I receive! I surrender to you Lord. Make me whole, and help me to have eyes only for you. As I come to the well of salvation, release your joy to me that I might draw the water of life to satisfy my thirst. Give me grace that even when I don’t feel this joy, I’ll keep coming, because your Word is true and what You give goes beyond feelings and circumstances. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
