John 2:1-3: ‘On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”'(NKJV)
You may know this story: how Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana. (See full story in John 2:1-10). What started as a joyful event was quickly turning into a disaster. There was no more wine! You can imagine the panic that would have instantly befallen the event planner, the couple, and their parents. But Jesus intervened! He instructed the servants to fill some water pots with water and to serve it to the people. Thank God they obeyed this instruction. He gave them the best wine they ever had!
Notice three things about this encounter:
- Jesus was invited to that wedding and if He had not been there, it would have been a disaster. Similarly, Jesus wants to be involved in your life and all that concerns you. Is your life (whole or partially) void of Jesus? Start by letting Him in today.
- Mary, the mother of Jesus knew what to do when she found out about the situation. Her immediate point of action was to ask Jesus. We sometimes reach a point in our lives where it seems that a good thing has turned sour. In place of the joy, peace, and abundance we once had, we are left with strife, lack, and uneasiness. Jesus honored that invitation and his mother’s request to do something. If you have invited Jesus into your situation, He is ever present to help. Just call on Him and ask Him to intervene. Ask Him for new wine.
- The servants obeyed what had to be the most absurd instructions they had ever heard. Why did Jesus use water and why did he use waterpots instead of empty wine jars? God loves to use foolish things of the world to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27). Have faith and trust Him even when your logic and reasoning fight against it. Let God be glorified through you.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I thank You because I know You can redeem any situation. I am sorry for any way I may have excluded you from my life and I ask that You please come and have your way in me and every situation, good and bad before me. Please give me new wine wherever I have run out and help me to walk in total obedience to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
