MOURNING OVER THE PAST

MOURNING OVER THE PAST

MOURNING OVER THE PAST 150 150 Bethel Campus Fellowship

“And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”” II Samuel 12:22-23 NKJV

In our reference scripture, King David fasted and pleaded with God for Him to spare his son. Interestingly, when his son died he stopped fasting and got himself together and ultimately moved on. His attitude showed true confidence in God’s plan. God had told him that the child would die and the child indeed died.

Like King David, we should not hopelessly hold on to the past especially if it is what God allowed.

Even in the midst of hardships or difficult situations that seem not to have an end, we should choose to display total confidence in God’s plan. Rather than wallow in sorrow over our situations, we should thank God because His word says that all things are working together for our good. (Romans 8:28).

When He brings you out of a past circumstance, do not frown, rather rejoice at His will being done. His word says: “for my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways” (Isaiah 55:8).

So trust that no matter what happens in your life, both good and bad, God is still God. He cares for you and He is in control.

PRAYER: Thank you Father for who you are. The only wise God who knows the beginning from the end. I come to you today in total surrender. I admit that sometimes, tough situations may be hard to comprehend. Please give me the strength to let go of difficult happenings in my past and give me the courage to move on. Help me to always trust that you are making all things work together for my good. Open my eyes to see your hand in every situation of my life and have reasons to praise you always in Jesus name. Amen.
