Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 1 Peter 5: 8-9 (NIV)
The word of God in our reference scripture admonishes us to resist the devil.
You may ask how?
First, we are admonished to be alert and sober minded and then in verse 9, we are told to resist by standing firm in the faith.
Standing firm in the faith is impossible without God’s word. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
Take some time today and examine your life. Look at the areas you are experiencing pressure from Satan and ask yourself; “am I hearing enough of God’s word?”
If you are tempted or feel under pressure, take some time to study the Bible to find scriptures to increase your faith and stand on those scriptures by faith. Retain an attitude of being alert and sober and cry out to God to help you with all sincerity of heart.
Because Jesus overcame, you also will overcome. In Jesus name. Amen.
PRAYER: Lord, I am tempted/under pressure in this area. Please give me the grace to be sober and alert so I can discern areas Satan is trying to exploit that I was ignorant of. Guide me in your word so I can equip myself with scriptures to increase my faith and overcome in Jesus name. Amen.
