SALVAGE

SALVAGE

SALVAGE 150 150 Bethel Campus Fellowship

Colossians 1:13 ESV – ‘He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,’

God saved you from the domain of darkness for a reason. Have you learned what it is?

When I was in college, I ran into a friend who was on her way to dispose of a camera she no longer wanted. For some reason, I took interest in the camera and asked her if I could have it. Then I took it home, cleaned it, managed to acquire an SD card, and even found a charger for it amongst some spare cables. This camera, that my friend wanted to throw away, became my trusted companion for the next year. Before I realized it, I was taking it everywhere and falling in love with capturing beauty.

What I didn’t do was take that camera home and put it in a trophy case or in a closet somewhere. In the same way that I salvaged that camera, from someone who did not see value in it to the point of attempting to destroy it,  God salvaged you from the world if you have dedicated your life to Jesus Christ. The words ‘salvage’ and ‘salvation’ have the same root. What I did when I saved that camera, would have meant nothing if I left it under my bed. I saved it, so that I could enjoy it, and make use of the features it was fashioned with.

Salvation is only the first step, the coming out…. the rescue. God loves you and wants to enjoy you and spend time with you. He wants you to fully manifest His glory in all the ways He purposed for you when He made you, just like that camera. (1 Peter 2:9; Ephesians 2:10)

Salvation is the first step on a difficult, dynamic, beautiful, at times painful, at times soothing, altogether indescribable, but oh so worthwhile journey to being like Him.

 So, I’ll ask you again…

God took you out of the world for a reason. Have you learned what it is?

PRAYER: Lord, thank you for rescuing me from darkness…. but why? What do you want me to do now? Lead me to the truth, in Jesus name I pray, Amen. (Give the Holy Spirit a chance and maybe some time to answer this question. Take time to listen from all directions because God speaks in many different ways.)
