STORE UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN

STORE UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. – Matthew 6:20 (NIV)

How many millionaires in the world do you think are happy?

It is easy to assume that they all are, but history (and the Word of God) show us that this usually isn’t the case.

Modern Christianity is typically taught with ideas like “knowing God is the key to wealth” and “paying tithes is the key to riches”

While there is some truth to these ideas, the whole truth is that following godly principles with the aim to be rich and having a relationship with God are two different things.

The bible says not to lay up treasures for yourself on earth, where vermin destroy and thieves break in to steal but rather to lay up treasures in heaven that can not be destroyed or taken from you.

That’s the essence of happiness! That is where satisfaction comes from, a joy, peace, love that never runs out, that is freely given by God to His children.

Many times we mistake the achievement of goals to be a sign of God’s faithfulness. This is a very dangerous assumption.

A very important question you should ask yourself first is: are you still in love with God and pursuing His will?

This is a hard saying that is worthy of deep reflection and humility before the Lord. Take time to ponder these things, and let God’s word be a light to your path.

PRAYER: Lord, what am I chasing after? And what is truly your purpose for my life? Please help me to seek you first. If I have been blinded by illusions of happiness found in money, fame and power, please forgive me, and help me to seek you first. Help me to draw closer to you in Jesus name, Amen!
