2 Corinthians 2:14-16: Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. (NKJV)
We are familiar with the sweet, pleasant aroma or fragrance of well cooked delicious meals, perfumes, soaps or lotions.
We are also familiar with being put off when we perceive or smell an odor, or stench.
In the time of the apostles, they were charged not to preach Christ (Acts 4:18). However, those enemies of the gospel did not fail to perceive the fragrance of Christ the apostles carried.
Acts 4:13: When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. (NIV)
Like the apostles, you cannot be a genuine follower of Christ without Him rubbing off His fragrance on you.
The essence of our being in Christ and Christ indwelling us through His living word is what sets us apart from other religions. Christ in us is the Hope of glory (Colossians 1:27b).
So, wherever you are, the presence of Christ and His aroma must spread across and around you.
People around you must be drawn to the sweet aroma you carry just like when people are drawn to you when you spray a nice perfume. Sinners should be drawn to ask what shall we do to be saved? (Acts 16:30-31).
Ask yourself today, are you carrying the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ? or are you repulsive because the smell of sin and compromise contradicts the faith you profess?.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to radiate the aroma and sweet fragrance of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Help me to draw men towards you and not repel them. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
