“And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.” – Mark 5:18-20
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” – Hebrews 10:24-25
In Mark 5:18-20, Jesus encouraged a man to share his testimony with his friends in his hometown. Jesus recognized that the man would have a great impact bearing witness to his friends.
When the man went home, “all marveled.” While the bible does not specify what happened next for the man’s friends, it is clear that a seed was sown in their hearts about the power of Jesus Christ.
Likewise, when the Lord blesses us, we never know how our testimony might help someone else. It might lead them to wonder who Jesus is that He could bless someone like us. As they search for that answer, the Lord can reveal Himself to them and they can receive Him as their savior. Even if the listener is a believer, our testimony can serve as encouragement to them of how good our God is.
Of course, use wisdom as you share your testimony. Pray for humility that will prevent you from sharing with a boastful heart and be sure to glorify God as you speak, not yourself.
PRAYER: Lord help me to be bold enough to share my testimony to Your glory so that others will hear of how good You are and draw nearer to You. Help me to do this with humility and wisdom, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
