Jesus is “… the radiance and only expression of the glory of [our awesome] God [reflecting God’s Shekinah glory, the Light-being, the brilliant light of the divine], and the exact representation and perfect imprint of His [Father’s] essence…” Hebrews 1:3 (AMP).
In other words, He is the Word of God, made flesh, expressing and revealing God to us, and who God is. There is no knowing God, except through Jesus Christ.
In another scripture, Jesus Himself claims that “‘… no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son [deliberately] wills to reveal Him.’” Matthew 11:27 (AMP).
Jesus is the revelation of God and only He is the way by which anyone gets to the Father (John 14:6). If this is so, how then, do we get to know Jesus? How is He [the Word] revealed to us?
You might have already guessed right: by prayer, and through the Scriptures.
God gave us His Word [Jesus] that through Him, we may know God. He also gave us His word [the Bible] that through it, we may know Jesus.
All scripture is God-breathed, inspired by God Himself (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The old testament and the new testament reveal Jesus. We can be confident that if we turn to the Bible, we will be opening ourselves up to knowing God as He is, with the help of the Holy Spirit leading us into all truth.
This truth encourages us to look into the scriptures with intention. It allows us to approach the Bible with the understanding that while reading and studying scripture may become a habit, it does not have to remain just that. It can be the habit that draws us nearer to God Himself and allows us to build our lives on, and a relationship with, Him. We can approach the scriptures with the intention of knowing a Person, and not just learning information.
PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, you are the Word of God, the Bread of Life. Please help me to know you and experience you. Give me a revelation of you as I walk with you daily in prayer and study of the word in Jesus name. Help me to understand your word, help me to pray effectively and guide me on the path of truth by Your Holy Spirit in Jesus name. Amen.
