Acts 14:15-17 …..We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them. In the past, he let all nations go their own way. Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.”(NIV)
God used Apostle Paul to provide special insight about Him in the bible. The devotional for today gleans on some of that insight to help us better understand the character of God, His role in creation and how He expects us to relate with Him.
Acts 17:22-31 (focus verses 30-31)….In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” ……(NIV)
1 Thessalonians 1:9-10: They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath. (NIV)
From these scriptures we find out that:
- God made the heavens, the earth, the seas with everything in them and He alone is to be worshipped. Though He is unseen, He can be found by those who seek Him (Acts 22:27)
- The way to know Him is through His Son, Jesus Christ who He sent to make payment for our sins through death on the cross. This Jesus resurrected on the third day as proof that God accepted His sacrifice for us. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
- He commands all men everywhere to stop doing the sinful things they do and going after idols because He has set a day of judgement against the sin human beings commit. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the One who died for our sins is the One who will judge the world on that day.
- Whoever repents of the evil they commit and believes that Jesus Christ died on their behalf is delivered from coming judgement against people that do evil
- The proof that we believe that Jesus Christ died for us is turning away from sin and idols to serving the living God. When we believe, we are to have an attitude that expectantly waits for Jesus Christ to come back and take us to heaven one day. (1 John 3:1-3)
Prayer: Dear God, please help me to believe all that the bible says about you and your Son Jesus Christ so that I can spend eternity with you in heaven in Jesus name. Amen.
